SKIN, Aesthetic Medical clinic was commissioned by plastic surgeon Dr. Jorgos Foukis from designers Michael Young and Katrín Ólína in 2007.  The new design of the 250-square-metre space, which is housed within a 12th-century building near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, was based around the challenge of preserving the past whilst stepping into the future by turning a museum quality space into a medical environment.  The team worked the spatial concept around the use of high tech materials Corian® and DuPont SGX to inject the space with high tech translucency and an ultra feminine touch.

True to a holistic design approach, Katrín Ólína also created the brand identity for the clinic. 

The walls are clad with back-lit cnc-routed Corian® panels, and the floors are covered with DuPont SGX glass, in which digitally printed plastic film is laminated between two sheets of glass. Ólína created the graphic pattern for the walls and the floral artwork for the floor, both of which decorate surfaces in the vestibule and waiting area.

Ólína's incisions in the backlit Corian® walls are based on a pentagon module that expands the ancient quatrefoil pattern of the iron entrance gate, to create a pattern of floral shapes. She notes, that the five-sided shape "essentially refers to our five senses and our extremities, and, perhaps most important for the clinic context, it refers to the golden proportion."

In contrast to the geometric wall design, the larger-scale flowers sandwiched between the glass underfoot sport soft edges and a palette of pinks, greens and, appropriately, flesh tones. The effect is like stepping into the world of Sleeping Beauty, the sparkling walls and frozen flowers give the space an ethereal, supernatural beauty.
