Minerals is a new collection of hand tufted rugs for Kateha, Sweden launched during Stockholm designweek 2017, 2017.  

In Minerals, the focus is brought under Earth’s surface to celebrate the beauty of microscopic patterns in the mineral kingdom. The hand tufted rug is presented in a warm monochrome greige design along with a more daring Minerals version, round, sprinkled with rasterised colour. 

Kateha’s rugs are handmade in India, where they are tufted or woven by hand by experienced weavers. Kateha possesses unique expertise and has a long history of textile design, product development and manufacturing.  When the majority of the Scandinavian textile mills disappeared in the 1970’s the strategy of the company was to find the best weavers that could guarantee excellence in production and craftsmanship. So started the now over 40 years long collaboration between the Hosak and the Ansari families, which has developed into a deep and lasting friendship. The company M.A.T of the Ansari family is well-known for taking – since decades – a big social responsibility for its staff in the different manufacturing processes by; improving salaries and working conditions, and supporting women’s  right to work at all levels in the company. It is important for the company to provide for the personnel and their families, since the value of the company lies in the skilled craftsmen and –women, who hand make the beautiful quality rugs you can rest your eyes and your feet on.
