Tree, coat stand for Swedese is a collaboration between Katrín Ólína and Michael Young. Since its launch in 2003 Tree has become a true icon for Swedese and for Scandinavian design.

Corianwall100signB

Tree, was first presented at London 100% Design in 2001 to complement an installation created by Michael Young and Katrín Ólína for Dupont Corian(R). The project explored Corian(R) and translucency. Routing into flat sheets of the material at varying depths with CNC-technology was a new way to create unique multi-textured light patination and presented a great potential to be functionalised as standard wall-cladding. To demonstrate this, Katrín Ólína created an artwork that was translated into the CNC programme. The results were stunning; a shimmering fairy tale drawn in light! And although the cut-out trees in front of the transluscent wall were very much a part of the fairy tale, the flat trees had something extra magical and independent about them.
